Month: April 2013

Collaboration is Good.

This weekend we’ll be collaborating with Students from Academe of the Oakes and with Dekalb School of the Arts students!  Sunday at 6, they’ll be reading new scripts and improvising!

Next week, starting Thursday, we’re proud to be helping the Process Theatre raise money for OnStage Atlanta by hosting ‘Desiging Women Live!’  Again, saving theaters is important and we’re happy to do our part!  We’re especially happy to welcome back to the Academy Topher Payne & Stuart Schleuse!

Most shows are sold out, but you might catch a few seats at the door!

First Night at the Absurd Door!

We’ve started rehearsals on ‘Way Outside the Fringe’, which will be a weekend of absurdest plays running April 26-28!  Among the playwrights are Nick Boretz, Dan Guyton, Hank Kimmel, David Fisher, and Annie Harrison.  Having Ms. Harrison’s play in the mix is particularly exciting as she’s new to the Atlanta playwright’s world and we get to help show off her work!

It’s also a pleasure to have a stable of writers, directors, and actors who enjoy the environment we create.

The first read of a play is always particularly exciting.  The playwright may not have ever heard it read before and the actors and directors get to develop an interplay and a style of work between them.  All of this will lead to the goal of trying to communicate ideas and experiences to the audience.  In this case, absurd ones!
