ACTING CLASSES

Through the use of theater games, music, mime and movement students will explore the worlds of their own imagination, fantasy, fiction and the world around them.

Ages 8-10

Saturdays — September 27, October 18 and 25, November 1, 8, 15 and 22
2014 — Rehearsal on Saturday December 6 for show at the PAC on December 7.

Classes are Saturdays from 10:00 — 11:00 AM.The class is 1 hour long
and the seven week fee is $100.00

In order to develop the awareness, flexibility, concentration and creativity that theater demands, the students will participate in acting, improvisation, movement, singing and mime.

Lynna Schmidt will be producing plays featuring young people throughout the year at the Stockbridge Community Arts Center. All students participating in Lynna’s classes will have priority when scheduling auditions.

Drama Ensemble Company for Teens grades 9th through 12th

Master Classes taught by Lynna Schmidt with a culminating fall 2014 performance
Master classes will focus on cooperative ensemble work and more complex improvisations, the actor can now focus on personal experimentation, physical and vocal development, empathy and trust.  Other types of master classes will be offered like stage combat, puppetry performance, voice work and movement.

Workshops classes will begin in June 2014 and run throughout the summer and into September with performances over two weekends  in October.  Monthly fee will be $210.00 and include all weekly master classes and rehearsals for company members.  Weekly tuition payments are possible please talk to the Academy Theatre at 404-474-8332.

Monday, April 21st at 7:00 PM – Parent and student information meeting about Drama Ensemble Company and audition process.

Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 – 1:00 PM Auditions for Drama Ensemble.  Please tell us if this day is inconvenient as we can schedule alternate time.  Audition requirements include a brief one minute monologue with a picture and resume (picture can be any size).  If you are a singer, please bring a song to sing acapella but singing is not mandatory.  Please plan to stay at least two hours from 1:00 – 3:00 as we will continue the audition process in a group.  Parents are welcome to stay in the lobby but we do not allow anyone but auditionees in the auditions.

Beginning Acting for Adults

The goal of this course is the achievement of relaxed, free and truthful expression of oneself.  Through the use of theater exercises and improvisation, the student will develop a sensitivity to internal and external stimuli and learn to express his/her response with greater freedom and focus.

Meet the Instructor

Lynna Schmidt
Lynna Schmidt, is a professional actor & director. Lynna has extensive regional and national experience in all types of artistic endeavors. She has worked locally as a director at Academy Theatre and as an actor at Theatre Emory, Atlanta Shakespeare Company at the Tavern, Georgia Shakespeare Festival, Theatre In The Square, Springer Opera Company and has been a company member of Alabama Shakespeare Festival.  Other work includes the Artistic Director for Grace Theatre and Producer/director/actor with the National Children’s Theatre Company, Artistic director and director of the Henry Arts Alliance Children’s Summer Camp Musical.   Lynna received her BA in Theater and Broadcasting from the University of Minnesota and a Masters in Theater from the University of Alabama, based at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Some of her acting highlights include Macbeth; Romeo and Juliet; Menopause, The Musical; Hamlet, The Musical;  Ah, Wilderness; 1940’s Radio Hour; A Midsummer Nights Dream; Crimes Of The Heart; A Chorus Line; Three Tall Women; Noises Off; Private Lives and A Christmas Carol.  Her directing highlights include West Side Story; Once Upon A Mattress; Godspell; Love Letters; Midsummer Nights Dream; You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown; The Norman Conquests; Cheaper By The Dozen; You Can’t take It With You and Birds Of a Feather.


She has taught acting classes, scene studies, audition classes, and drama workshops for all ages of young people and adults.  In addition, she is an acting coach for young people/adults auditioning for advanced Theater programs and film and theater auditions.
